PRSA Code of Ethics

14 Sep

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

September marks the 10 year anniversary celebration for the current PRSA Code of Ethics.

“Our current Code of Ethics was written by a special committee of the Society’s Board of Ethics and Professional Standards (BEPS) in 2000 and approved by the organization’s Assembly in 2001,” says PRSA Chair and CEO Gary McCormick, APR, Fellow PRSA. “It’s one of the most explicit codes of conduct followed by communications professionals today.” (PRSA Press Release)

PRSA stands for the Public Relations Society of America.  PRSA was established in 1947 to unify, strengthen and advance the public relations profession.  The first Code of Ethics was established in 1950, at that time is was used as a rigorous, cumbersome and expensive code.  After revisions were made the code is now us helpful and aspirational.

The Code is kept up to date by the Professional Standards Advisories (PSA’s).
